Kim Jong-Un Net Worth is $5.0 Billion (as of 2020)
Believe it or not, but at the moment Kim Jong-un net worth amounts to $5 billion. This is quite a lot of money for a leader of a relatively poor nation (according to CIA World Factbook 2013. The country‘s GDP per capita is $1800), huh? In fact, $5 billion constitutes roughly 1/8 of North Korea‘s annual GDP! Now as amazing as this fact is, it is difficult to track down the exact sources of Kim Jong-un net worth or to find any reliable data on his accounts. That‘s because all the information concerning the supreme leader and his family is diligently kept Secret by the heads of the leading Communist Party. And the „information“ that reaches North Korea‘s people and is spread in foreign countries is mostly misinformation. But Kim Jong-un net worth is by far not the only interesting thing concerning this man. Some of the facts and stories about this leader and his predecessors seem almost unbelievable for those who have been born and raised in democratic countries, unfamiliar with the strategies used by Communist Party. So let‘s discuss some of these peculiarities.
Quick facts

To this day, Kim Jung-un has held various titles, including the Supreme Commander of the Korean People’s Army, Chairman of the National Defense Commission, the Chairman of the Central Military Commission and the First Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea. Kim was raised to take over the role of his father, Kim Jong-Il, and ascended to power in 2011, after his father‘s funeral (you must remember television reports showing crowds of seemingly devastated Koreans, weeping as if each of them was burying his own father, but those tears deserve a separate discussion) . According to the Washington Post, it was exactly during the Kim Jong-il‘s memorial service that the Chairman of the Supreme People’s Assembly declared: “Respected Comrade Kim Jong-un is our party, military and country’s supreme leader who inherits great comrade Kim Jong-il’s ideology, leadership, character, virtues, grit and courage”
While giving his first public speech the newly-baked North Korea‘s leader stated that his “first, second and third” priorities are strengthening the military. This was not the first or the only time that Kim has underscored the importance of military strength. The leader is quoted saying, that „The military might of a country represents its national strength. Only when it builds up its military might in every way can it develop into a thriving country“. The same goal, to increase the country‘s power at any cost, has led Korea‘s leaders to develop the guns of mass destruction. In 2009 the country‘s leaders declared that they have developed nuclear guns and hence „the days are gone forever when our enemies could blackmail us with nuclear bombs“. In this context, I find the fact that although Kim Jung-un net worth is impressive, his countire‘s financial capabilities are rather small, soothing. If North Korea had the means to pursue its military ambitions, the world would be even more dangerous than it is.
